We are back from the lake and what a boat-iful trip it was! Every day out on the water, taking readings for our mapping task and learning how to use boats and engines. We had our theory lessons outdoors on a pier overlooking the lake and surrounding islands. Now we're back at Abhaya school, ready for some city sight-seeing over the next couple of days before our journey back to Aus. The end is nigh!

Mission accomplished! Boats are finished! All painted and packed in the trailer ready for departure to Lake Laknavaram tomorrow morning! We can't wait to plonk them into the water and take them for their first sail. Check out these amazing finished products!
All the finishing touches on our boats are complete and they have been lacquered.
Now it's time to paint! Stay tuned for our soon-to-be bright and colourful boats! Only a few more days until we take our precious builds to Lake Laknavaram to become one with the water. We are now 1 week into our boat making expedition. Spirits are high and things are lookin' good! Boat floors are installed. Lots of stitching, glueing and fibreglass taping has been done to strengthen joins. Now time to install some seats!
On our day off on Sunday we went for an adventure into the bustling city of Hyderabad. First stop was at a market labyrinth, then an ancient fort and castle where Indian royalty used to live. We saw lots of temples and corn-munching squirrels. For dinner we ate Hyderabad's signature dish - biriyani. Then we took our full tummies and happy hearts to bed to rest up for another big week. Bring on week 2! Some tired workers taking five in their boat-in-the-making. It's been a very busy week of building. Seat frames are in - now time to install the base!
Our first full day of boat building was a success! We dived straight in and started cutting and glueing our ply board pieces. The local village is full of colour and noise and smells... and puppies! Here is a photo of a colourful place of worship we stumbled upon today.
